Red Cross Day in Tutrakan: Young Rescuers Showed Knowledge and Heart

On May 8, 2025, on the occasion of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, the Municipal Council of the Bulgarian Red Cross – Tutrakan and the Local Commission for Combating Antisocial Behavior of Minors and Juveniles held their annual First Aid Review at the Volunteer Training Center in the village of Belitsa.

The event was opened by Mr. Senami Rashid, Chairperson of the Municipal Council of the BRC–Tutrakan, who announced that this year’s competition is dedicated to the memory of Mrs. Violeta Lyubenova, the doyenne of the BRC in the municipality of Tutrakan. All participants bowed their heads in a minute of silence.

Guests of honor included Mrs. Margarita Kasabova, Director of the Secretariat of the Regional Council of the BRC–Silistra; Mrs. Galina Ivanova, Specialist in Youth and Social Activities; and Mr. Veselin Kalchev, Specialist in Disaster Management, also from the Regional Council of the BRC.

The jury, composed of Chairperson Ana Petrova – Head Nurse at Tutrakan General Hospital, Dima Nedelcheva – Senior Nurse, and Donka Grigorova – Nurse, ranked the four participating teams as follows:

  • First place – Secondary School “Hristo Botev”, Tutrakan
  • Second place – Social and Pedagogical Institution “Hristo Botev”, Varbentsi
  • Third place (shared) – Primary School “St. St. Cyril and Methodius”, Nova Cherna, and Secondary School “Yordan Yovkov”, Tutrakan

The children demonstrated their knowledge and practical skills in providing first aid in cases of burns, frostbite, fractures, bites, and other emergencies.

Tomorrow, the regional round of the competition will take place in Silistra, where the winning team from today’s event will represent the Municipality of Tutrakan.

The Regional Council of the BRC–Silistra awarded Mrs. Ana Kirilova Petrova with a medal and a certificate of appreciation for her long-standing and dedicated service in support of the Red Cross.
